The Happy Dog Company was formed in 2011 by husband and wife team Ben & Laura.
The couple got their first dog (Daisy the Chihuahua) in 2004 and went on to keep two of her pups, Florence & Oreo.
Tired of the daily commute to London and increasingly loving his walks with his dogs, Ben decided it was time for a change. With both him and Laura coming from managerial backgrounds, they could see there was a gap in the market for a brilliantly operated pet company that not only provided a wider range of services, but one that genuinely cared for other peoples’ animals as if they were their own.
So, with this a brave step was taken for them both and The Happy Dog Company was created.
Since then, Laura has gone from part time administrator to Partner of the company, and it has grown in dog walkers from just Ben, to a team of loyal and well trusted staff members.

There is a saying “you should never stop learning because life never stops teaching you” and after over 40 years of working in a sales environment, I’m pleased to say I am still learning, Its quite simple – dogs smile and laugh at each other, at us or from the sheer joy of running and playing.
I know this as my name is Gerry and 9 years ago I had an opportunity to change my work and lifestyle by joining Ben and the Happy Dog Walking company armed only with my absolute love of dogs, exercise and being outdoors. Not really knowing how it would work out, I can honestly say it has been an amazing time during which I have learnt a lot about doggie behaviours, particularly the benefit they get from walking as a group. There is obviously something great about walking and playing with a group of your friends and it does help them socialise, bit like us really?
The reward for me? The look of joy on my little friends faces as they chase ( and lose ) balls, chase each other and unfortunately jump into puddles and ponds, makes it all very worthwhile. Torrential rain, snow, hailstorms and sometimes even sunshine we still go out and have some fun and we have a variety of walks to chose from across the downs or on the beach. You can’t be a fair weather walker in this game!
During my 9 years I have been privileged to know some beautiful dogs, some fantastic owners and lots of other doggy minded people that stop and talk to you.
I love my job and so glad that I took that leap of faith and joined Ben and his team and I’m sure that my little friends would agree, ask them I’m sure they understand us!

After moving to Hove just under 6 years ago from Ibiza I was looking for something new, exciting and rewarding to do and thought dog walking sounded perfect. I’m so happy I didn’t head back to the 9-5 office job, as I love every second with the dogs exploring the beautiful South Downs on our walks. I have always loved dogs having them growing up and owning my own wonderful black Labrador Louie who is very privileged to come out on all our walks too.

I approached The Happy Dog Company in 2021, as I knew someone who had worked with Ben & Laura in the past.
I started walking for them as a Solo Dog walker to start with, with My Dog Lenny, and I’ve since learnt to drive and do walks in the week days & on weekends. I offer daycare as well, and really enjoy trying out different walks around the Brighton & hove area. I love the flexibly it’s given me with working when I want to and meeting all the different dogs.
